Will Wii Buy?

Nintendo Wii

So the Nintendo Revolution has gotten it’s final name. The Nintendo Wii (pronounced We or w or whheeeeee), is Nintendo’s next gen system.

I’ve talked about this amongst people and I have to admit that I’m more excited about this then the PS3. Yeah, the PS3 has some nice whizbang features like dual HDMI outs, 1080p video, Blu-Ray, etc, etc. But really I think that Nintendo is taking the knowledge (and the letdowns) from the GameCube and applied them to this product. While we aren’t gonna get anything higher then 480p video and probably ProLogic ][ sound, I’m not worried. I feel as though the game play will deliver what the other systems haven’t.

Much unlike the rest of the gaming community, I hate FPS’. Hate them. I’ll play the occasionaly Madden or Gran Turismo but really I like fun games that grab me. For example, God of War was a great, fun game to play. Kingdom Hearts is another game that really had me wanting to play it. Hell, I even had my lifed sucked up for awhile playing Virtua Tennis on my DreamCast. I guess I’m technically a “casual” gamer as defined by Nintendo. My tastes are random. Though I’m waiting with baited breath as they are promising to deliver some really innovative games. Just look at the controller and if it delivers half of what The Big N is promising I’ll be satisfied.

Then there is the idea of the virtual console. Almost all of Nintendo’s back catalog will be playable on this new system. NES, Super NES, N64 and GameCube games can be played on this system. How f’n hot is that? Out of the gate the system will have potentially hundreds of “launch” games.

While I’ve not seen too much of what thier online strategy is going to be, it’s gonna be hard to take the lead from Microsoft on this front. I love the online interaction I get with XBox Live. The addition of some more games (PLEASE MK2!!!) in the XBox Live Arcade has made it even better. Just check out some of the info for Uno that is coming soon.

So I guess to sum up, I can’t wait for what they have to announce at E3 this year. Of course I’ll be checking out all the players but most of all it will be Nintendo.
