QuickGoogleSilver

Fans of Quicksilver on the Mac know how fantastic that app is. Quick access to apps, documents and macros to perform all types of functions all packaged into one app. It’s the first thing I install when setting up my Mac. But alas there isn’t anything as seemless or as good looking for Windows . I’ve tried many different products each with very dismal results.

But I cry foul no more. After install the latest release of Google Desktop I was setting my prefernces and noticed a checkbox for allowing the Quick Search box. I said sure and was then instructed to hit CTRL twice to activate it. Viola, I get a popup that is very much like Quicksilver’s. I start to type and I get search results, applications and even results from the web.

w00t!

I even typed in a web address and Firefox opened it, I was afraid that it was going to give me a Google search result for the domain I typed in but it was smart enough to know I just wanted a browser with that address.

It’s missing the plugins that Quicksilver gives me but atleast it’s close to what I’m looking for. Finally.
