College Drinking.

So Jessi’s sister Jenn graduated this past weekend from Viriginia Tech (yeah she’s a castrated turkey also). Well not completely graduated as she still has a few summer courses she needs to wrap up. But regardless she walked across the stage and got her fake cardboard diploma. Well that was after they added her to the end of the list as they forgot that she was showing up.
We arrived at our hotel in Roanoke aptly named Hotel Roanoke at about 2:3o on Friday and got all checked in. Our room was nice but the floor was kinda damp. Thinking nothing of it but that they may have flooded we got ready for dinner. I can’t really remember the name of the joint but it was italian and had a very mafioso feel to it. This was surprising since the place was in downtown Blacksburg and you’d figure that everything there would either be some sort of hippie joint or fast food. Either way the food was good and we all had a good time.
Following that we headed over to a martini bar called Nerve. It was straight out of Northern Virginia. Apparently the food there is top notch but we didn’t try it. We all took a seat at the bar around 7pm and didn’t stop drinking until about 11pm. The night ended with Jenn, Jeff (her b-friend), Jessi’s Dad and I doing a modified Irish Car Bomb. I say modified because we were served the Guiness in keg cups with plastic shot glasses. Worried that the shot glass wouldn’t sink, I decided to just dump the shot into the Guiness and go. Once again, first one done. On that note we called it a night. We did have to be in Blacksburg the next morning at 7:45am which meant that we had to be up and ready to go by 7am.
The ceremony was okay. The speaker was the COO of Choicepoint. I thought that was funny since they did possibly lose some of the attendees information. Either way, he was a good speaker and somewhat entertaining. Then there was the procession of 600+ students we had to sit through since Jenn was last in line.
After the required zillion pictures were taken we headed off to lunch. This place was awesome, it’s called Cabo Fish Taco and the food was really good. The best part was they had about 50 different flavours of tequila at there bar. Unfortunately I felt it was a little too early for tequila. After a quite filling lunch we headed back to Roanoke to get changed. I fell asleep while the rest of the group decided to tour downtown Roanoke. I was awoken about 2 hours later by the maid and must have decided to just pick up my stuff and head downtown. I say that because when I mentally awoke I was about half way to the downtown area dialing Jessi. I was a little freaked out by this. We walked around for a little bit more and then decided to hang out at the hotel for a little while why we decided on what we were going todo for the evening.
Well, what we decided todo was to drink and play some pool. Once again it was about 6ish and we were at the bar. I decided to try some new stuff but I couldn’t figure out what I wanted. The bar in the hotel was very well stocked with lots of different types of alcohol. I asked if they had a bartender’s guide and I was in luck. So I just started to flip through the book. Jenn had come over and was trying to help me decide on what to get. That’s when we just started thinking of random words and seeing if there were drinks to match. Here is a rundown of the drinks that we tried out:
- Absolut Royal Fuck – This was the first drink and we decided that we weren’t going to shout this out at the bar. It was rather fruity and sweet and went down very easy.
- Adios Motherfucker – We really, REALLY wanted to try this but the recipe we had called for simple syrup which they didn’t have.
- Smurf Piss – It was of course blue in color and almost tart in taste with a sweet finish. Probably a very fun drink at parties.
- Roanoke Star — This was on the drink menu. It’s basically a Red Bull and Vodka with a shot of cranberry juice.
- Bald Pussy – Another pink sweet drink. I can’t really tell you what it tasted like since I can’t really recall.
Sprinkled in there were several other drinks like Gin & Tonic and Peach Schnapps with Sprite. I was really glad to see that they carried the Starbucks Liquer as that is now my sipping drink of choice these days.
What kept surprising Jessi was that each morning I would get up and not have a care in the world. There were no hangovers had this past weekend even with an average of 23 liquer drinks per evening between basically 5 of us. Of course Jenn, Jeff and myself made up probably 75% of all those drinks but still no ill effects were felt.
So who’s up for hitting a hotel bar this weekend and trying out some new drinks?
