The only reason to upgrade to Vista.
Truth be told, I probably won’t upgrade to Vista until I’m forced too. Most likely they will make the next version of Visual Studio only Vista compatible and then I’ll have to upgrade. But until that happens I’ll happily chug away using my Windows XP and Visual Studio 2005.
That is until I saw people are actually starting to adobt the SideShow functionality in Vista.
Wouldn’t it be great if you could read an e-mail message, confirm a meeting location, or check a flight reservation without turning on your computer? What if you could check the program guide in Windows Media Center by using a display that’s built into your remote control? Windows SideShow puts this information literally at your fingertips on a wide variety of devices that can retrieve information from your mobile PC or desktop computer.
Sounds super hot to me. This has been a major contention of mine for not carrying around a notebook, since I had not had much luck with Windows based “instant on” features that some laptop makers have. Havine a Mac really just makes it worse since thier’s actually works as advertised. Here’s to hoping that Apple will possibly take a page out of the Microsoft playbook with this one.
Apparently some big players also thing that it’s a little bit of the awesome. Nvidia is getting into it with thier Preface System.

Asus has quite an awesome SideShow setup coming in there W5Fe product.
Luckily for me, I can even code these gadgets in C# too, so maybe an instant Twitter notification gadget is in the future?
