I have a metric shit load of things going on these past few weeks. I’ll save the gory details but it’s been a bunch of highs and lows and some in-betweens. Honestly, I’m sure none of you give a shit and just want the music, so here it is.

Seriously, though The Clipse definitely deserve the lead off on this mix simply because it’s got some really hot bars. Be sure not to sleep on the Wale track neither, this local is hot, hot, HOT. Also of not is Ellie Goulding track which this time around is just a cover but wait until my next post with her own track and a dupstep remix (of course) of the same track, both are straight heat. 

This is definitely not devoid of some glitchy goodness either, between FlyLo, Mike Slott and Iso Brown you should be covered.

On top of that he’s got Busta and Cee-Lo guesting on his album. Now he has Ludacris on a remix of his “I Love College” track. Does that legitimatize you in the hip-hop world yet? Either way, hot rhyme from Ludacris once again proving my point that most of the time he’s on fire when it’s someone elses track.

I also have a new Em track on here that will offend a lot of people. It’s really him being him really and has some of the hottest/funniest lyrics of the album.

Then of course there is my effort of trying to get more and more people into dubstep/grime/wobble/etc. so there is even more of those delicious bass heavy tracks in this mix.

Don’t feel bad, most people probably didn’t since they gave about 72hrs notice of it’s impending arrival. I totally appreciate the fact that a band is willing to release an album as soon as it’s done.

So that’s what I did last night. After much contemplation over the idea, I decided to head out anyway. I had put in my 13 hours at the office (not an exaggeration) and I wanted to see Frightened Rabbit. I was however pleasantly surprised with the opening acts, Oxford Collapse ∧ Takka Takka.

The first band to hit the “Backstage” of the Black Cat was Takka Takka from NYC. Never heard of these guys but was really impressed and was contemplating buying their upcoming cd. I didn’t because I ended up loosing most of money falling out of my pocket at some point during the night. So, I got a copy from iTunes and will have to wait for the next cd to be released at the end of the month. At first I felt a bit of “Explosions in the Sky” vibe with the long instrumentals but then you start hearing the lyrics and I realized that they had something going. I also hadn’t realized that they even had a track featured on “Eli Stone” last season, which may explain why that track seemed familiar to me.

Takka Takka – The Takers

Next up was Oxford Collapse, another NYC band. This 3 piece put on a great show and definitely brought the heat both in the music and the fact that I think they turned the AC off (if it was ever on) while they played. Mixing some punk/post rock and indie rock they put on very energetic show with the lead singer filling the time between songs with some various facts including one about how there is only one person who eats at Ben’s Chili Bowl for free, Bill Cosby. Playing a few songs I’ve heard before and more that I want to hear again, including the duet they did with Scott Hutchison (lead singer of Frightened Rabbit), these fellas could be set to break out. Doesn’t hurt to be signed to Sub-Pop either.

Oxford Collapse – The Birthday Wars

Finally, Frightened Rabbit who I have been silently raving about in my own head for a few months now. Couple of lads from Scotland that write and perform beautifully. I really can’t say any more about how great they were at this show. Musical styling that is somewhere between Arcade Fire and Belle ∧ Sebastian, these guys are great. Funny on stage too.
