Music Monday..

2010.. ahh.. the start of a new year all fresh and full of potential, so of course my water meter freezes over and I don’t have any water in my house.

Pretty sweet eh?

Top 10 Electronic Albums of 2009

Surprisingly enough (sarcasm implied) there are some non Dubstep tracks on this list. Actually was a good year for dubstep and brostep, since the mainstream (mostly Hip-Hop guys) artists have discovered the bass heavy beats (e.g. Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, Murs).

My only problem is that there really wasn’t a whole lot of “albums” per se on this list as the EP’s that were put out by most people this year were solid. I tried to avoid it, much like I tried to avoid Mixtapes on the Hip-Hop/Rap list, but it was hard and there were some EP’s that I really wanted (nee, needed) to include.

#10.1 Adore – Adore [Survival]

#10.2 16 bit – Chainsaw Calligraphy – The Remixes [Chainsaw Calligraphy]

#9 Example – Watch The Sun Come Up (Remixes) [Watch The Sun Come Up (Joker & Ginz Remix)]

#8 Discovery – LP [I Want You Back]

#7 LMFAO – Party Rock [Shots (ft. Lil John)]

#6 Mary Ann Hobbs Presents: Wild Angels [Nosaj Thing - Ioio]

#5 Basement Jaxx – Scars [Saga (ft. Santagold)]

#4 Bibio – The Apple and the Tooth/Vignetting The Compost/Ambivalence Avenue [Jealous of Roses]

#3 Freeland – Cope [Do You?]

#2 Calvin Harris – Ready For The Weekend [I’m Not Alone (Herves see you at the dub parade mix)]

#1 Hudson Mohawke – Butter [ZOo00OOm]

Honorable Mentions

Anything that Joker touched.. seriously, I knew that guy was going to be hot this year. Loved every remix he did.

The Gaslamp Killer had some great sets done this year but his album kind of sucked.

Amanda Blank, David Guetta, The Bloody Beetroots, Diplo, FLYamSAM..

Top 10 Hip-Hop/Rap Albums of 2009

Hip-Hop/Rap in 2009 was a very interesting and checkered thing. While we had some solid new releases from veterans like Mos Def, Lil’ Wayne and Jay-Z; it was hip-hop’s new class this year really shone bright with faces like Wale, Kid Cudi, Drake and Asher Roth.

#10 Slaughterhouse – Slaughterhouse [Wack MC’s]

#9 Brother Ali – Us [The Preacher]

#8 J Dilla – Jay Stay Paid [Mythsysizer]

#7 K’Naan – Troubadour [ABC’s (ft. Chub Rock)]

#6 Alchemist – Chemical Warfare [Therapy (ft. Blu/Talib Kweli/Kid Cudi)]

#5 Blame One – Days Chasing Days [Wonder Why]

#4 Jay-Z – The Blueprint 3 [Off That (ft. Drake)]

#3 Mos Def – Ecstatic [Supermagic]

#2 Wale – Attention Deficit [Chillin’ (ft. Lady Gaga)]

#1  P.O.S. – Never Better [Low Light, Low Life]

Honorable Mention

To be honest, this was a tough list to put together as there were a TON of albums that were on repeat for me this year. Some of the albums that almost made the cut:

  • Felt – Felt 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez
  • Dizzee Rascal – Foot N’ Mouf
  • Toki Wright – A Different Mirror
  • Speech Debelle – Speech Therapy

Ellie Goulding covering Robyn, Be Mine

I didn’t think my love for Ellie Goulding could get any higher but then I hear this cover she did of one of the greatest (if not the greatest) Robyn track.

Seesmic for Windows

Grab your own copy here. Trust me, it’s almost worth it.

So I’ve spent the day with this new twitter client and I have to say, it’s the best Windows only twitter client out so far. With that said, it still has a long way to go before it becomes my defacto client.

  • Notifications of new items. How is this not built in from the get-go? I don’t get it and seems like a glaring omission. Not even a beep or anything?! Totally confused.
  • The ability to copy tweet text. Again, I’m not quite clear on why this isn’t possible. Could it be the coder or WPF/SL that is causing this problem? Either way, it’s annoying.
  • What I love about TweetDeck is the ability to right click on a link and choose either to copy it or open it. Love, love, love, love that!

Mind you this is just day one (for me and the app actually) and the product is still being worked on. Hopefully after the buzz of PDC has subsided they can incorporate some of these items.

Music Monday – Sliimy

I’ve taken a lot of heat over the fact that I like Mika and Junior Senior, but I don’t care. Sometimes I really like sugar-pop-sickly-sweet music. I’m not talking about your Hannah Montana or her ilk, I’m talking well constructed pop songs.

Which brings me to Sliimy (wonder if he has the same parents as Miike Snow?), a Parisian pop artist that I recently discovered from several blogs recently. Apparently this guy has been around for sometime, some even go as far to call him the European Purple One (for those of you that are younger, I’m talking about Prince.)

Check out the video and grab the MP3 here: Sliimy – Wake Up

Ellie Goulding – Under The Sheets

Ever since coming across the Dubstep version of Starry Eyed earlier in the year I have been obsessed with anything related to Ellie Goulding. Then I came across her cover of Bon Iver’s The Wolves and was more obsessed. Then a new single has dropped awhile back (it was on this blog on the 16th of October) called “Under The Sheets”.

Super catchy and fantastic production this track I think really highlights the girls vocals and song writing ability. There is now a video for the song and I love it.
